Review Summary:

The is slightly more than just another Mid Sized SUV in the brand’s lineup. Unlike the Patrol Safari, Murano and Xterra, the Pathfinder has actually changed its identity over time and now competes with SUV’s such as the Chevrolet Captiva.

Once regarded as a great and affordable off-roader, the Nissan Pathfinder can now only dream of tackling obstacles it could conquer in its youth. Moving away from a body-on-frame structure to a unibody design, it now rides on the same platform as the Altima and Maxima. With D-shaped headlights, a generous splash of chrome all over the bodywork, and bumpers that aren’t too high off the ground, the 2015 Nissan Pathfinder looks ready to tackle tarmac and nothing else.

Inside, it’s all quite familiar. Though the centre stack, instrument panel and steering wheel look like they’ve been salvaged from the parts bin, it’s all quite neat. The second and third row seats are slightly on the firmer side, and I doubt the option to recline them would aid in making them any more comfortable on long journeys.

The Tri-Zone Entertainment System fitted in the Nissan Pathfinder is a rather neat feature. Essentially what it enables is, the 2 multimedia screens to be controlled independently while granting master control from the 8” VGA screen placed in the dashboard. More importantly, since the rear multimedia screens are linked to wireless headsets, the 13-speaker Bose sound system can be adjusted to play music through the speakers placed only in the front.

What’s on offer?

Under the hood, Nissan has squeezed a 3.5 litre V6 that puts out 254 horsepower and 326 Nm of torque through either a two wheel drive, or four wheel drive layout. Now before you do the ‘that’s-not-bad’ nod, I think it’s important you know that the transmission is a CVT…

Summing it…

Gone are the days when the Pathfinder was young, athletic and energetic. In its current guise, the Pathfinder seems like an aged athlete and a disgrace to the Pathfinder nameplate. So save yourself the embarrassment and just get the Chevrolet Captiva, it’s also significantly easier on your wallet!
