Review Summary:

The Megane is a C - segment offering from the French manufacturer that is available as a five door , or a two door cabriolet in the UAE. In addition to its looks, the fact that BMW is the only other manufacturer to offer a and cabriolet body style for the same model, makes the Megane pretty special in the range.

Whether it's the hatchback or the cabriolet, they're both absolute stunners.

The price tag on the cabriolet is simply ridiculous.

Though similar for the most part, minor styling differences such as the exclusion of LED’s under the headlamps, a revised bumper and a prominent crease along the sides, differentiate the 2014 Renault Megane cabriolet from the hatchback. In addition to the nameplate, both models also share one more very important characteristic; they’re ravishing!

Identical to the interior of the Renault Fluence, the cabin features a dual layer dashboard that is divided in the centre by a strip of silver plastic and an instrument cluster that is home to a digital speed-o-meter. How would a Renault Megane Cabriolet owner feel knowing their interior is sourced from a car that is exactly half the price? Not very happy, I reckon.

For a hatchback that falls in the sub AED 60,000 price range, the 2014 Renault Megane is more than adequately kitted out. Features such as push button ignition, dual zone climate control, a sunroof and cruise control are all available on different rungs of the spec ladder.

What’s on offer?

Two engine choices are available across the Megane range, a 1.6 litre 4 cylinder engine and a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine. While the 1.6 litre engine gets the option of a 6 sped manual or a CVT transmission, the 2.0 litre is only available with the latter. Horsepower figures start out at 110 in the 1.6 litre manual version, rise to 115 in the 1.6 litre CVT and top out at 138 in the 2.0 litre variant.

Summing it…

The Megane hatchback is economical, good looking and with a price tag that is AED 22,000 less than the Volkswagen Golf, it is well priced as well. The Megane cabriolet on the other hand, doesn’t seem worth the money with a price that goes North of AED 110,000!
