Review Summary:

The is a compact sedan that is manufactured by the French brand and goes up against the likes of the Nissan Sentra and Mazda 3. Cruising the streets of the U.A.E. since 2011, it’s the Korean import that we get out here, with two engine choices on offer.

Pros

Technology that has been crammed into the compact sedan is simply brilliant

Cons

Better materials could have been used within the cabin

Looks

Up front, the Fluence flaunts a rather taut expression with its wrap around oval headlamps, depressed chrome grille and prominent contours along the hood. Character lines that start at the headlamps and zoom down the length of the car, add pizzaz to the otherwise not-so-exciting side profile of the compact sedan.

Feels

Plastic seems to have been the material of choice when the interior of the 2014 Renault Fluence was being put together. Everything from door panels to the dashboard is adorned with hard plastic and while a strip of silver trim divides the dashboard into two sections, a neat infotainment system sits neatly atop.

Engineering

Tech is something that Renault have thrown in abundance into the Fluence. In addition to a Bose sound system and an electronic parking brake, the 2014 Fluence features an electronic speed-o-meter, push button ignition and a speed regulator-limiter that will definitely aid in keeping those pesky speeding tickets away.

On Offer

Two engine choices are on offer, with a 1.6 litre unit that churns out 112 horsepower at 6,000 RPM being the smaller of the two. The larger 2.0 litre engine not only provides 31 horsepower more but also offers the option of a six-speed manual instead of the CVT gearbox. Although their top speed isn’t vastly different, the 0 – 100 km/h times for the 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre variants are 13.4 seconds and 12.6 seconds respectively.

Verdict

The basic Renault Fluence starts out at AED 55,000 and although it isn’t as costly as its rivals, it is unlikely that people will opt for the Fluence solely on its price, since the Mazda 3 starts out at a marginally higher AED 57,000 and the Sentra at AED 58,000. They could however, opt for the Fluence based on the features it offers or its unique outer shell.

Wonderful car. Excellent features. Updated technology.

A very comfortable car with a very smooth ride. Value for money. You’ll get more than you ask for in this car. Good spacious interiors with good legroom at the back too. Nice boot space, low maintenance cost, a very good A/C with dual zone control, keyless entry and start, walk away locking, automatic hand break, elegant looking daylight running lights are just few other smart features of this car. The 2016 Renault Fluence pushes its segment competitors way down the scale and makes them run for their money.
