F1 At Ski Dubai

Nelson Piquet spins his F1 car’s wheels at SkiDubai

It was brief, but it was spectacular.

Renault’s F1 Roadshow ended its time in Dubai on Sunday evening when Nelson Piquet Jr performed donuts inside the city’s indoor ski slope.

Skiers and snowboarders stopped their runs down the slope as the Renault F1 pitcrew fired up the 2008 F1 car at the bottom of the slope at SkiDubai.

The car, fitted with studded tyres and piloted by one of Renault’s two drivers taking part in this year’s F1 World Championship, only managed a few brief tricks before burying itself in snow, but it was enough for some spectacular pictures. Onlookers both inside and outside the facility watched as the tyres kicked up snow and the walls reverberated to hundreds of horsepower during what must have been the strangest site SkiDubai has seen in its history.

Thankfully there was no repeat of Thursday’s action, which saw the F1 damaged at Dubai’s Autodrome.

The event was also the official launch of the Koleos, Renault’s new 4×4, but most people were much more interested in the F1 car.
