In the immortal words of Henry Ford: “You can have it in any colour you like, as long as it’s black”. Ladies and gents, meet the McLaren 570GT Black Collection, and you are absolutely right in thinking, you can’t have it in any other hue other than the aforementioned black. In fact, everything from the exterior finish, right down to the last interior detail is finished in, you guessed it, black. Oh, and there are only 100 of these being produced.

Set-up in 2011, McLaren Special Operations division, or MSO, as we know it, is responsible for one-off projects such as the aubergine-inspired, and contentiously styled, but rather elaborate, X-1. This seems more of a cynical marketing exercise to our eyes, if we’re honest.

Anyway, back to the car. Mechanically, this is still a standard 570GT, so you get the, er, 570-horsepower V8, slightly cushier ride and a parcel shelf behind the rear seats to carry  to carry as many A4 paper sheets as you desire, as long as they don’t exceed 100. Or something.

Cosmetically, it gets a new MSO Bespoke Carbon Black exterior paint, a special black titanium exhaust and Sport Pack dynamic handling package for enhanced sportiness.

The cabin is a further aesthetic experiment in more black-on-black, with a tinted panoramic roof as standard. W0o-Hoo!

It is not going to be cheap despite its monochromatic leanings; pretty anti-supercar, we reckon. But here’s the big one: It cost about AED900,000, give or take, which is mental given it’s slower than a Porsche 911 Turbo S and, more worryingly, priced close to what the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Which would you have, it you were spending your theoretical million dirhams? We know what we’d get.
