Behold, it’s the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Weissach has hit back with its latest track-weapon, the GT3 RS, worth 520 horsepower thanks to a naturally aspirated flat-six engine that revs all the way to 9,000rpm. Let those ears bleed…

The timing couldn’t be better — moments after the Italians announced their ultimate track weapon, the new Ferrari 488 Pista, the Germans responded with the new 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and it’s fair to say the battle will be epic.

Weissach’s latest treat will make its official public premiere at the Geneva motor show in a couple of weeks, but Porsche has already laid out all the facts plain and clear — with a motorsport-derived chassis and a 4.0-litre flat-six naturally aspirated engine, the latest 911 GT3 RS makes 520 horsepower which enables zero to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 312km/h.

Compared to the 911 GT3, that means the RS is 20bhp stronger and seven-tenths of a second quicker in the sprint to the ton. The design of the wide-body exterior is largely dictated by the need for extra aerodynamic downforce, which is why the 2018 GT3 RS features a rigid rear wing that’s quite substantial in size, as well as an interior full of racing paraphernalia, such as a pair of carbon-fibre bucket seats, lightweight door panels with storage nets and opening loops, reduced sound insulating material, as well as a new lightweight engine lid.

Best of all, that flat-six still revs to a heady 9,000rpm, so you know you’ll give the twin-clutch PDK transmission a proper workout every time the GT3 RS hits the road. And no, don’t ask, because unlike the 911 GT3, you can’t have the RS model with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Available to order now with first deliveries starting later this summer, the new 911 GT3 RS kicks off from about AED880,000, which includes 20-inch wheels (with 21s being optional), newly developed tyres, and the ball-joint suspension like you get in the bonkers, turbocharged GT2 RS.

At no extra cost, Porsche will also include the Clubsport package which throws in a roll-cage, fire extinguisher, battery disconnect switch, and a six-point belt for all the hard-core track rats out there. With all the lightweight kit on board, the final weight figure for the 911 GT3 RS is quoted at 1,430kg, which is actually a smidgen over the ‘standard’ GT3.

Never mind that though, because we want one, and we wouldn’t even say no to the Kermit green.
