Meet the 2018 -Benz C-Class. And stop squinting or rubbing your eyes, because a) it’s rude, and b) this car really is new. Apparently. Your cynicism is justified, though, because there really is very little differentiating this from the current model at first glance. But anyway, let’s go through the changes.

Cosmetically, it’s got the obligatory new bumpers (as is tradition with face-lifts), new headlights, diffuser, a new grille and a couple of new exterior paint finish options, and it will be officially revealed at the 2018 Geneva motor show. Likely to plenty of head-scratching visitors wondering why Mercedes decided to showcase a two-year-old car.

Sarcasm aside, as is the case with most modern Mercedes-Benz cars, the real upgrades are in the cabin. Just like its smaller 2018 A-Class sibling that we featured a few weeks ago, the new C-Class brings more premiumness and aspirationality to the compact executive segment with an impossibly large 10.25-inch screen (optional, of course. The standard item is seven inches) and fancy-sounding features such as ‘Energising Comfort Control’.

The said system combines seat heating / ventilation, fragrance and seat-massage functions to rejuvenate the driver. Like its bigger siblings it also gets semi self-driving abilities and a host of new tech kit.

In terms of mechanicals, we don’t foresee any earth-shattering changes with the new model. So expect the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 making about 370 horsepower in the top-end C43 semi-hot AMG version, followed by the 2.0-litre turbo powered C300, C250 and C200 variants. Bringing up the rear will be the base 1.6-litre turbocharged C180. In the pipeline, of course, is the rorty 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 C63 version.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will go on sale across the GCC later this year.
