Land Rover resurrects iconic Defender, at a price!

The Brits resurrect the for just one more last final no-really-we’re-serious-this-time run with a V8-engined limited 70th anniversary edition for AED760,000!

No, you’re not confused. Land Rover really did hype the heck out of the Defender’s end of production in 2016, going on and on about the iconic model’s legacy and signing out with a limited Heritage Edition run.

Now a new milking opportunity has presented itself since it’s the 70th anniversary of the brand this year, and having realised their mistake in killing off the iconic Defender model a couple of years too early, the Brits simply dusted off the presses for one more run of 150 limited edition cars.

And so on to the 400 horsepower Defender Works V8, celebrating 70 years of the Land Rover marque with a 5.0-litre V8 engine that propels the box on wheels from zero to 100km/h in well under six seconds. Previously the last official V8-engined Defender was launched 20 years ago in  1998 to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary, and that fuel-injected 4.0-litre V8 only produced 190 horsepower so things have certainly moved on a bit…

The new collector’s edition Works V8 cars will all be badged with a special 70th Edition plate as the fastest Land Rover ever made, although don’t get too excited over there — the top speed is only 170km/h…

Other than that the V8 comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF (the one that’s in everything these days), and additionally there are uprated brakes with 335mm front discs, revised suspension settings, and 18-inch diamonds-turned wheels shod with all-terrain tyres.

Customers can choose from eight body colours, and contrasting details, plus aluminum door handles, fuel filler cap, bonnet lettering, and some LED lights. The cabin is trimmed out in leather and both the short wheelbase and long wheelbase models will be available for the Works V8 specification.

Land Rover says the cars will roll out in the UK but will not be available in the United States, however luckily for us the Defender Work V8 is available on order for Middle East collectors who have at least AED760,000 to spend on a hot-rodded classic.
