British marque Jaguar has just stirred the crowded super-saloon pot with a new Nürburgring class lap record with a time of 7:21.2 seconds.

A car fitted with a modified roll cage, a driver’s seat safety harness, and a factory optional two-seat track pack set the record with Belgian racing driver Vincent Radermecker behind the wheel of the 600 horsepower, 5.0-litre supercharged V8-engined Jag.

Capable of zero to 100km/h in under 3.5 seconds, and with a top speed of over 320km/h, the special edition model is limited to 300 units worldwide with a starting price of around AED700,000.

Hand-built by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations () division, the car is 11 seconds quicker around the ‘Green Hell’ than the second-best saloon around the 20km-long circuit.

Compared to the standard XE model, only the roof and front door skins of the Project 8 body are carried-over unaltered, and SVO boss Mark Stanton says 75 percent of its mechanical hardware is new.

With that 7:21.2 lap time, the Jag is in hallowed company, close enough to the Ferrari 488’s time around the , as well as the old Dodge Viper ACR, and the previous generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS. In short, in the unlikely event you encounter an XE SV Project 8 in the wild, take a wide berth and don’t try to take it on.
