More power, more torque, less weight, and more monies — that’s the name of the game for the new CS

After the M4 CS was launched earlier this year the Munich manufacturer pledged there’d be more BMWs coming with the coveted Club Sport badge, and sure enough this week the company has revealed the new M3 CS with the historic name.

Compared to the M3 with the Competition Package, the new M3 CS has 50Nm of torque extra as well as 10 more horsepower for a total of 460bhp and 600Nm. These figures are good for a zero to 100km/h time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed derestricted to 280km/h. When it rolls out in Europe for a start, the model will be priced from about AED415,000.

Limited to 1,200 units worldwide, the M3 CS features the M Sports exhaust system with CS-specific sound tuning, as well as a bunch of exterior and interior changes to justify the moniker. The roof, for example, is made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic, and together with the new front splitter, rear spoiler with Gurney flap, and a composite rear diffuser, the car’s kerb weight has been reduced by up to 50kg.

Exclusive forged wheels are also part of the package, finished in matter grey in a ten-spoke design measuring 20in in diameter, and weighing as little as 9kg each. As standard the alloys are fitted with Michelin pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres for maximum effect on the race track.

Compared to standard M3 items, the CS gains a composite bonnet that’s around 25 percent lighter than normal and that roof saves an additional 6kg over a steel one. Inside the car, BMW didn’t really skimp on luxuries in the name of weight saving, so you still get air conditioning and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.

Otherwise the cabin comes draped in two-tone leather and Alcantara, and some highlights such as M stripes. One of few options offered for the 2018 M3 CS includes a unique Alcantara steering wheel with a silver 12 o’clock strip. The car is expected to arrive in our Middle East market early next year.
