Japanese giant Nissan has been peddling the X-Trail for four years now, so the time is ripe for a mid-life facelift and update to the if it’s to stay relevant with rivals such as the Mazda CX-5, Kia Sorento and Hyundai Tucson.

Just launched in our region, the range comprises two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models as before, with a carried over 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine making 169 horsepower and 233Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Prices start from AD87,400 for the base-spec variant and go up to AED129,000 for the fully-loaded model.

On the outside you might spot the changes made to the grille, with the signature V-Motion mug now bigger than before and featuring some gloss black accents, full LED headlights, and new front and rear bumpers. Nissan is also introducing five new paint options to the colour palette including a sandy beige and a pearl blue.

Consumers will welcome the changes made to the X-Trail’s practicality stakes, although the new flat-bottomed steering wheel is pushing things a bit… Otherwise the updates are to the materials and finishes of the cabin, and new kit such as rear-view monitoring and safety systems like emergency braking.

All models come with a continuously variable transmission as the only option, plus improved sound system quality with better radio reception thanks to a new shark fin antenna.
