Inspired by the R8 V10 LMS racing car, has just premiered a new limited edition mid-engined with rear-wheel drive for the first time.

The 2018 R8 V10 RWS will be available in both Coupe and Spyder body styles limited to 999 examples worldwide with prices starting from $145,000, or AED535,000.

Built by hand at the company’s Böllinger Höfe factory, the RWS (which stands for Rear Wheel Series) is targeting purists who priorities driving enjoyment, and comes with a specially tuned chassis that’s purposefully setup for controlled drifts, according to Audi. In Coupe form the RWS weighs 1,590kg, which is a saving of 50kg compared to the standard all-wheel drive cars.

Since all those weight savings come from the lack of all-wheel drive components such as the prop shaft, multi-plate clutch and centre differential, the weight balance has also been affected and the RWS model is now even more rear-biased with a roughly 40.6 to 59.4 front to rear ratio. The car rides on black-finished 190inch alloys in a five-spoke design with 245/35 fronts and 295/35 rear tyres.

Other features specific to the RWS include a new matte painted grille and gloss black side blade, while a red stripe running along the bonnet and roof and rear of the car is optional. Inside the RWS you get Alcantara and leather seats and of course a dash plaque indicating your car’s build number out of 999.

The star of the show is still the 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 producing 540 horsepower and 540Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, which in the Coupe is good for 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds.
