The resurrected ATS marque reveals its 700bhp , the GT, at London’s Salon Privé

The ATS marque — short for  Automobili Turismo e Sport — was formed following a controversial decision made by Enzo Ferrari to fire several members of Ferrari’s senior team back in 1961. While the original car, which was conceived by some of the brightest minds in automotive engineering at the time, wasn’t exactly a runaway success, the brand is nonetheless back with an all-new model 53 years later. The newcomer is called the ATS GT and was recently unveiled at Salon Privé in London.

The manufacturer that’s based on the outskirts of Torino, Italy, says that the GT supercar is the first product from the resurrected ATS and others will follow.

Stylistically, the mid-engined GT isn’t exactly a departure from the kind of thing you’d expect from a boutique manufacturer. The front looks a touch derivative with hints of Dodge Viper and Porsche Carrera GT but the back is decidedly more exciting.

The cabin is swathed in Alcantara and the steering wheel is suitably sporty with carbon fibre inserts, but there isn’t much else to write home about. Let’s just say it’s not going to give Porsche sleepless nights anytime soon.

While the company has not given many technical details, it says the ATS will push out 650- to 700bhp from a twin-turbo V8 in its two states of tune. Power will be transmitted, presumably, to the rear wheels via a seven-speed transmission enabling the GT to complete the benchmark 0-100km/h run in just over three seconds. Top speed is suitably supercar-ish at 332km/h.

The press release says that the GT is “built with abundant use of composite materials”  and promises several cutting edge technological solutions. The dynamic behaviour of the GT will be customisable with three available driving modes, namely, Viaggio, Sport and Corsa. The various settings will alter the suspension set-up, gear-shift ferocity and engine power, much like most modern cars.

There is no word on pricing or availability yet.
