Volkswagen’s ultra-luxury brand Bentley has just revealed the Continental GT heading to the in two weeks for its public premiere.

The third-generation model is, according to Bentley, designed, engineered (on a Porsche Panamera platform) and hand-made in Britain, now featuring an uprated 6.0-litre 12-cylinder engine, twin-turbocharged to deliver 626 horsepower and 900Nm of torque.

The 2018 Bentley Continental GT takes styling cues from the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept car first seen at the 2015 Geneva motor show

With a new double-clutch eight-speed transmission on board, the powerhouse combo is good enough for 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 333km/h. If you line it up against the 600-horsepower, million-dirham, V12-engined Aston Martin DB11, the specs say the Bentley’s quicker by 0.2 seconds and with a higher top speed too, by 11km/h.

With its new chassis utilising a 48-volt electrical system to power trick kit like adaptive suspension (ditto, Panamera), the Continental GT can control body roll and ride comfort on the fly. Engineers also positioned the W12 engine further back improving front to rear weight distribution, which in turn freed up the designers to to come up with a much sleeker car — the front wheels are now 135mm further forward than before, and the car is longer and lower, highlighted at the back by teardrop taillights and at the front by LED Matrix headlights flanking a larger grille.

The new aluminum body contributes to a saving of more than 80kg over its predecessor, and the third-generation Continental GT also comes with aluminum front and rear axles and available lightweight 22-inch wheels. The brakes meanwhile have been increased in size by 15mm up front, to 420mm in diameter.

To handle 626 horsepower, the car drives all four wheel with a rearward bias, with a three-mode chassis (including Sport), and air suspension filled with 60 percent more air, says Bentley.

The completely redesigned interior now looks purged of any Volkswagen hints found in old Continentals, and offers a Naim 2,200-watt 18-speaker sound system, and a new rotating 12.3-inch touchscreen, the largest ever in a Bentley. You can have quilted leather, 10 square meters of wood veneer, diamond knurling, and 15 colour choices and 15 carpet options…

Since the model was launched in 2003 Bentley has sold 66,000 Continental GTs, and once the new third-generation car is unveiled in Frankfurt it should make its Middle East debut at November’s before going on sale in 2018.
