Auto Middle East has confirmed that Volkswagen is bringing the new seven-seater, US-built Terramont SUV to the 2017 Dubai motor show this November before the model goes on sale here region wide.

Launched Stateside last year badged as the Atlas, and manufactured in the Wolfsburg company’s Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, the Terramont SUV is built on VW’s MQB modular platform that also underpins cars like the new Tiguan and Golf.

In the US the car starts from the equivalent of around AED110,000, and our VW Middle East source confirms the pricing will carry over similarly when the Terramont goes on sale here.

When first revealed last year, Volkswagen put forward plans to market the Atlas/Terramont in China and Russia additionally, alongside the Middle East and America.

Available engines depending on regional specifications include a pair of petrol powerplants, offering either 235 or 276 horsepower. The entry level model gets along with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine driving the front wheels, and putting a maximum of 350Nm of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The top model in the Terramont range is the 3.6-litre V6 SEL Premium 4Motion variant, driving all four wheels and developing 276hp and 360Nm of torque. That one will set you back around AED180,000.

At just over five meters long, with nearly a three-metre long wheelbase, the Terramont reaches the Middle East going headfirst into a competitive segment, with rivals such as the Honda Pilot (starting from AED115,900), and even the Toyota Prado (from124,500).

As perks VW throws in kit such as an available Fender sound system, wide array of connectivity options, and driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and parking assist.
