The current generation Honda City was launched in 2014, and so the Japanese car maker already showed off its mid-life facelifted 2018 City five months ago. Now budget-minded buyers will be happy to know the compact sedan has just been launched in our region ready to go on sale in the from AED52,900.

Honda Middle East says the changes for this mid-life update focus on the car’s refinement, and the 2018 City is still available in three trim levels as before: starting with the City DX, and moving on to the LX and the top-of-the-range EX variant.

Up front the new fascia design with a honeycomb grille mesh is supposed to give the 2018 City an aggressive look, and additionally there are new LED daytime running lights as standard kit on all grades, plus front fog lights which only come on the fully-loaded EX.

At the back the bumper is also new, and there are new taillights, new wheel designs, and a new colour added to the body palette called Nocturne Night Metallic (it’s black) plus a black interior option new to the EX model.

Inside the car a welcome new feature for 2018 is the rear-view camera which activates when you shift into reverse to back out of a spot, and believe it or not a brighter vanity mirror light…

Provided you go for either the 2018 City LX or EX, you can also have a touchscreen with a familiar smartphone-like interface, cruise control, start-stop button, smart entry, paddle shifters for the CVT transmission, and automatic air conditioning.

Underneath it all things remain the same, as the 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine carries on unchanged, producing 118 horsepower at 6,600rpm and 145Nm of torque from 4,600rpm.
