GMC has updated its full-size Yukon Denali lineup for 2018 with some minor design and trim enhancements as well as a new 10-speed automatic transmission for the top-spec flagship.

On the outside the 2018 Yukon Denali is distinguishable by a new grille while the interior gains ash wood trim, and that’s real wood, GMC will have you know…

Carried over is the Yukon Denali’s 6.2-litre V8 engine producing 420 horsepower and a massive 846Nm of torque, featuring direct injection and cylinder deactivation so you can run it as a four-cylinder when not under load. GMC claims segment-leading power figures and towing capacities.

Although the styling updates are small to notice the new grille does offer more airflow to the radiator, with active aero shutters that work automatically to lower drag when extra cooling isn’t needed, like during prolonged highway driving. Still, the new 10-speed transmission is the highlight, with a wider gear ratio for greater efficiency.

Offered in standard wheelbase length and extended Yukon XL Denali trim, the 2018 model starts from around AED260,000 with standard kit such as GM’s adaptive Magnetic Ride Control suspension, and braking and hill-start assists.

Other convenience features include active noise cancellation for a quieter cabin, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, a head-up display, and all the USB ports and three-prong 230-volt plugs you’d expect in a massive family hauler.

Options are few as the Yukon flagship has pretty much everything ticked off, but there is a power-retractable assist step available with LED perimeter lighting, and 22-inch wheels over the standard 20-inch design.

Keep in mind if you’re looking at the Yukon XL Denali it’s got a 14-inch longer wheelbase and more than double the cargo room, but it’s a whopping 20-inches longer overall than the standard SUV at 5.7-metres long, so remember, measure your garage twice and buy once.
