Review Summary:

The Camry isn’t in need of a flowery introduction. Having served as part of the brand’s line-up since 1982, its life spans across several generations that have seen it grow and improve, mechanically, stylistically, and technologically.

Pros

* Aggressive styling helps it stand out of the crowd
* Neat Alcantara touches on the Limited variant

Cons

* Pricey when compared to the Nissan Altima and Mazda6

Looks

Currently in its eleventh generation, the Japanese sedan has paid a visit to the plastic surgeons and walked out with a wider facia composed of angular headlamps and a sizeable grille that is influenced by the spindle doctrine made popular by its sophisticated cousin, Lexus. Subtle nuances differentiate the Camry from the Corolla and Avalon, but a shared DNA is evident.

Feels

Inside, the Camry has gone through an evolutionary process and held on to all that was pleasant from the previous model. Retaining the roominess and the comfort offered by the outgoing model, the 2016 version is a step (albeit a small one) in the right direction.

Engineering

Technologically, the Japanese family sedan has upped its game to challenge the likes of the Nissan Altima and now offers a fully customizable multi-information display within the instrument binnacle, a 10 speaker JBL audio system and a plethora of safety features including Side, Curtain, and Knee airbags.

2016 Camry Side

What’s on offer?

Under the hood, the Camry houses a 2.5 litre 4-cylinder engine that emits 178 horsepower in S guise and 181 horsepower in SE, SE+, and Limited garb. Likewise, torque gets rated at 231 Nm in the S and 235 Nm in the better equipped variants. New shock absorbers also play a role in improving the ride quality and agility of the 4,849mm long sedan.

Summing it…

The 2016 Toyota Camry has taken the quality, durability, and reliability of the previous model and made it better. Though it’s only a mid-life refresh as opposed to an all-new model, the Japanese sedan is at the pinnacle of its life – the best it’s ever been.
