2015 Renault Clio Sport | New Car Review
* Packs in a decent amount of grunt for a puny 1.6 litre engine.
* Simply doesn't possess what it takes to stand out in front of its rivals.
Currently in its fourth generation, the Clio RS comes off as wider and sharper than ever before. Its aggressive mien is composed of crisp contours, angular lights and gaping air inlets that connote it isn’t one to be taken lightly.
Following in the footsteps of its siblings, the cabin bears a familiar DNA that it shares with the rest of the line-up. Piano Black trim and silver surrounds complement the combination of smooth and perforated leather, while contrast red stitching livens it all up. Though it all looks and feels rather sporty, the Clio simply isn’t as well put together as its rival from Germany.
Catered to the performance enthusiasts, the 2015 Clio RS is equipped with a real-time performance tracker that provides the driver with information including transverse and longitudinal g-forces, acceleration times, a lap timer, and data pertaining to the engine amongst other things.
What’s on offer?
Powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the 2015 Renault Clio RS directs 197 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque through a six speed automatic transmission to the front wheels. It dispatches a 0 – 100 km/h run in 6.7 seconds and powers on until hitting 230 km/h; quite feisty for a 1.6 litre…
When judged on its own, the Clio RS is a rather compelling buy, but factor prices and value for money into the equation and there isn’t anything left in its favour. With the least amount of power and not the smallest of price tags, it’s torn between the Focus ST and Golf GTI while not having ground of its own.
