Looks

We’ve all heard the saying ‘the design will grow on you’, but it’s worth noting that this isn’t true with the 2015 Nissan Juke. Its countenance that resembles a pleased Buddah is composed of turn signals where you’d normally find head lamps, head lamps where you’d normally find fog lamps, and a grille that stretches the width of the bumper.

Feels

Believed to be inspired by a sports bike, the centre console reminds me of a cupcake, while the hazard light switch works as the cherry on top. For those looking to jazz up the rather dull interior, a splash of red or gun metal grey across the door panels, gear shifter and cup holders is available.

Engineering

In terms of safety, the Juke is equipped with a total of six airbags. Two dual-stage supplemental front and side-impact air bags complement roof-mounted side-impact air bags which work to keep the driver and passengers safe. Additionally, the Active Head Restraints on the front seats help reduce whiplash injuries by moving up and forward during certain rear-end collisions.

What’s on offer?

The Nissan Juke packs in a 1.6 litre 4 cylinder engine that produces 117 horsepower and 158 Nm of torque. But for those looking for that extra punch, there is a turbo version of the same engine available that puts out an extremely impressive 190 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque.

Summing it…

At the end of it all, I’m a little baffled as to why anybody would opt for the Nissan Juke. If you’re after a mini SUV that is off-road capable, get the Suzuki Jimny, it starts at just AED 55,000. If you’re after a mini SUV that looks good, get the Daihatsu Terios that starts at just AED 64,000. But why you’d want to spend anything between AED 66,250 and AED 84,750 on Nissan’s Joke, sorry Juke, is beyond me…
