Review Summary:

The second generation 308 is the definition of a significant improvement.

It's styling is by far it's strongest point.

It is on the pricier side of the spectrum.

The ’s always been one of the brand’s less remarkable offerings. Having developed a reputation for being rather prosaic over the years, it’s a badge that never really stirred much of a reaction… up until now. In second generation guise, the 2015 oozes with charisma and packs in oodles of pizzazz. It’s undoubtedly the prettiest model in the brand’s current lineup.

2015 Peugeot 308 front

Retaining the quirky characteristics of its predecessors on the interior, the cabin of the Peugeot 308 is home to a generous amount of plastic, a large instrument cluster atop the dashboard, and a central infotainment screen that sits in a hexagonal silhouette. It’s not exactly award-worthy, but it is different, and for that they deserve a few points.

Safety features on the French hatchback include, but are not limited to, a Driver Assistance Pack including dynamic cruise control (DCC), an emergency collision alert system and an emergency collision braking system.

What’s on offer?

Trekking the naturally aspirated route, will land you 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine that chucks 120 horsepower and 160 Nm of torque through a 4 speed automatic transmission to the front wheels. Venture into turbocharged territory and you’ll find 163 horsepower, 240 Nm of torque, and a 6 speed automatic transmission at your disposal.

Summing it…

The Peugeot 308 has come a long way from its humble beginnings back in 2007, and having improved on all fronts, it’s a commendable C-segment offering in today’s market space. For a price that ranges from AED 85,000 – 105,500, you really can’t go wrong with it. Unless, you’re better off with a piece of German engineering – the Opel Astra’s an alternative.
