Review Summary:

Pioneering the E Series for the Chinese brand back in 2012, the E5 is still a relatively new entrant in the market that faces competition from the Chinese JAC J5 and Korean Kia Cerato. With prices clearly in its favour, the 2015 E5 is on the right path to success, for now at least.

Pros

In the price you’d normally pay for a second hand vehicle, Chery allows you to drive a brand new vehicle off the showroom floor.

Cons

Most people still see Chinese vehicles as inferior offerings.

Looks

Depending on which side of the 2015 Chery E5 you come in contact with, your first impressions of the Chinese sedan are likely to differ greatly. Up front, a ton of effort has gone into giving the impression of a wider stance, with descending contours from the hood integrating into the chrome grille, and wrap around headlamps adorning the frontal section. Continue walking around the car though, and you almost get the feeling that the designers’ ran out of ideas, forming what only screams out “econo-box!”

Feels

Surprisingly well designed, the cabin of the 2015 Chery E5 is home to a neat and clutter-free two-tone dashboard, plenty of storage space, and a fair amount of plastic that has been concealed quite cleverly. With a wheelbase of 2,600mm, the E5 also offers sufficient head and leg room for both, front and rear occupants.

Engineering

Ridiculously well equipped for a car belonging to the ‘economically frugal’ category, the 2015 Chery E5 brings to the table, leather seats, power windows, a sunroof, a touch infotainment screen, and an audio system with four speakers and a USB port. Yes, you read that all right.

What’s on offer

Under the hood of the E5 resides a 1.8 litre 4-cylinder engine that puts out 130 horsepower at 5,750 RPM and 170 Nm of torque at 4,500 RPM. Mated to a CVT transmission, the 4,580mm long Chinese sedan sprints to a 100 km/h in 11 seconds and runs out of juice at an acceptable 176 km/h.

Summing it…

For those who are concerned about badge appeal, the Chery E5 wouldn’t even pop onto their consideration list when buying a new vehicle. But for those who simply want a city beater, something to get from A to B, the 2015 Chery E5 offers brilliant value for money as it comes with a good warranty and at a price which puts fellow Chinese manufacturers and Korean manufacturers to shame.

Abid, price range is mentioned right below the first image – did you not see that? For any promotions and offers, you need to get in touch with the local Chery dealer.
