The Bentley Flying Spur is a full size luxury car that was created by adding two extra doors and stretching the extremely popular Continental GT. Based on the same platform as the Volkswagen Phaeton, the Flying Spur slots between the Continental GT and Mulsanne, in the British marque’s line-up.
Stunning exterior combined with an interior that can't be matched to many others out there.
Due to the low subwoofer housings in the trunk, cargo space is significantly reduced.
If ice cream’s a treat for the taste buds, the 2015 Bentley Flying Spur is a treat for the eyes. With prominent creases racing down the length of the car, the designers have tried their level best to differentiate the Flying Spur from its two-door sibling, by relocating the smaller combination lamps with those of the larger ones. A small but big enough change.
Hand stitched leather, walnut wood trim and picnic tables that receive five layers of clear lacquer, are just an insight into the perfectionism that goes into making a Bentley, a Bentley. With comfort being the number one priority, the cabin houses the softest of leather seats and enough room in the back to have a great night’s sleep, should you ever be locked out of your own house. Practicality, however, can be questioned, as the low subwoofer housings in the trunk not only nibble on precious room, but devour it.
Embracing technology, the guys at Bentley have stuffed the Flying Spur with tech that will not only be loved by rear seat passengers, but by all occupants within the cabin. Equipped with a WiFi hub, the 2015 Bentley Flying Spur works as a Hotspot connection to the internet and allows everything from tablets and phablets, to mobiles to laptops to surf the internet or stream videos off YouTube. Additionally, the 64 GB internal hard drive ensures there’s enough space on board to store your all time favourite hits and enjoy them through the brilliant 1,100 watts Naim sound system.
What’s on offer?
The mighty 6.0 litre W12 engine sends a staggering 616 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, through an eight speed automatic transmission to all four corners. With a 40:60 front-to-rear torque split, the 2,972kg English babe pulls its weight together and dispatches a 0 – 100 km/h sprint in just 4.6 seconds. What’s even more impressive, however, is its outright absurd top speed of 320 km/h! For those who let out a sweat just reading those figures, there’s a tamer V8 version that produces 500 horsepower and bears a top speed of 295 km/h; slow isn’t it?
As ludicrous as this may sound, the 2015 Bentley Flying Spur is, in fact, a Bentley on a budget. It is the Bentley that the logical man would opt for, because with it being AED 50,000 more than the Continental GT and AED 600,000 less than the Mulsanne, the Flying Spur offers the best of both worlds at a price that seems every bit justified.
