Review Summary:

The Giulietta is a nameplate most of you would be familiar with, however, unlike the subcompact coupe that was produced from 1954 to 1965, the newest version shares nothing with its grandpa, except its name.

Pros

When admiring the Giulietta from the outside or sat in the driver's seat, the passion of the designers just emanates through.

Cons

Slightly pricey for a .

Looks

From the looks of it, the designers have grabbed a hold of the MiTo, massaged its curves and stretched it out to arrive at the Giulietta. Right from the triangular snout up front, to its pronounced shoulders and LED tail lamps, the 2015 Alfa Romeo Giulietta is exciting, curvaceous and so much nicer than its A-Class rival from Germany.

Feels

If the exterior had you drooling, the interior will have you walk into the showroom and book one. Unlike the humdrum layout of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the Giulietta follows a two-tone colour scheme which gives the cabin that pizzazz, that inexplicable Italian flair. While perforated leather can be found on the steering wheel and red stitching along the gear lever, the Guilietta is not one to be mistaken for a hot hatch by any standard.

Engineering

The 2015 Alfa Romeo Giulietta is a safe little hatch, but don’t take our word for it, because the painstaking 15,000 hours of virtual analysis, 100 crash tests, 150 tests on a HyGe slide and more than 100 tests on components and subsystems, speak for themselves. The result, is a spectacular Euro NCAP five-star rating.

What’s on offer?

Under the hood of the beautiful Giulietta resides a 1.4 litre 4-cylinder engine, which puts out 170 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque in Normal mode, or 250 Nm of torque in Dynamic mode. Sending power through a 6 speed automatic transmission, the Italian hatchback can either sip 4.6 litres of fuel for every 100 kilometres, or catapult itself to the 100 km/h mark in 7.8 seconds and continue all the way to 218 km/h. For those in search of a little more power, there’s also the Quadrifoglio variant which puts out 240 horsepower and wears a price tag upwards of AED 122,000.

Summing it…

The 2015 Alfa Romeo Giulietta may not be at the same level as the A-Class where performance is concerned, but it sure is bigger on style, size and passion. To top it all off, it wears a lower price tag and isn’t portrayed as an accountant’s city runner. Just as it is aptly captured in the advert for the Giulietta, “Without heart, we would be mere machines.” Need I say any more?
