Review Summary:

The Fabia is a B-segment contender that rivals the American Ford Fiesta and Japanese Suzuki Swift for the title, Ultimate . Currently in second generation guise, the Fabia is available in two exciting flavours, Monte Carlo and RS.

Pros

In RS guise, there aren't many other cars that provide as much bang for your buck.

Cons

Interior materials could be spruced up, at least a little.

Looks

The 2015 Skoda Fabia is a no-nonsense, no-frills, ultra basic hatchback that looks good with a protruding centre section in its hood and is hell-bent on winning people over with its performance, rather than its pretty face. For the trendy youth that go miles to make their pride and possession stand out, the Fabia offers a range of customization options; interior, wheels, roof, you name it.

Feels

Compared to the tech-laden cabins which house more buttons than a keyboard, the Skoda Fabia is very, very different. In fact, due to its simplicity, many would consider the dashboard to be archaic. Gaping holes of hard plastic and a stereo system which looks like it belongs to the Eighties, make the Fabia feel like a downright Econo-box.

Engineering

When in RS territory, the improvements aren’t only under the hood. Both, the driver and front seat passenger receive specially moulded sports seats that are embroidered with an RS emblem and come in either grey or red. Standing out from the crowd should be easy…

What’s on offer?

A naturally aspirated 1.6 litre engine that is good for 105 horsepower is what makes its way into the standard Fabia. If you’re more of a performance junkie and looking for some real hot hatch action, it’s the 1.4 litre turbo and super charged, 180 horsepower generating unit that you’ll enjoy.

Summing it…

Sliding in neatly between the Suzuki Swift and pricier Ford Fiesta, the Skoda Fabia wears a starting price of just AED 54,900 which rises gradually before stopping at AED 79,900 for the mental RS version. The way we see it, it’s the cheapest hot hatch out there, what’s there to complain about?
