Review Summary:

The 2015 is the ultimate super-car. Striking looks and phenomenal power are combined to make this one of the cars of the decade. But you’ll need a lot of money! Oh, and it’s a hybrid!

Pros

Be it the looks, the interior or simply its performance, it is extremely difficult to find faults with.

Cons

Way beyond the budget of 99.9% of us.

Looks

The 2015 Porsche 918 is the epitome of sensationalism. The front is instantly recognisable as a Porsche, but it ends there. The massive air ducts that sit behind the doors make it look as if the back is a different car altogether and the headrests trail back reminiscent to the 1960’s Batmobile. The hard-top Weissach package comes with a sticker kit, leaving this writer lost for words. You’ll either love it or hate it!

Feels

Inside the 918 is a truly fantastic interior. The bucket seats offer excellent comfort and support, which is going to be needed should you wish to thrash it around Yas Marina or Dubai Autodrome. The driving position is low, and you are cocooned within a true sporting body, in this car you really will feel like a bona fide racing driver.

Engineering

The 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder comes with a normally aspirated V8 engine, but is also powered by electricity, and even by Formula 1 standards it is apocalyptically complex. The electric machines, of which there is one at the front and one at the back, offer a combined output of 286hp alone! This, then, is sensationally fast stuff.

What’s on offer?

Mercifully there are only two versions of the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder on offer. It sounds a bit daft calling the 918 Spyder the entry model, but so it is. At 8,500RPM it will produce a gentleman’s 887hp and get you from 0-100kp/h in 2.6 seconds. For a few more Dirhams you could get yourself the Weissach Package, complete with sporting decals, but the power plant is exactly the same. Now, price… the 918 Spyder will set you back – ready? – AED 3,308,700. Yes, I thought you’d say that. The Weissach, however, is even more expensive at AED 3,624,800. Moving on…

Summing it…

There is no point summing this car up from a real-person perspective, as this car is beyond the reach of 99.99% of us. Sure, it is expensive, but for those whom this car is a possibility, it’s hard to find a fault with. If you can afford over AED 3 million for a car then you could do far worse than this. It. Is. Amazing.
