Review Summary:

The Wrangler is the Daddy of all off-roaders. There are many who still claim that it is the original and the best; and who could argue with them? It is a red-blooded off-roader and won’t let you think it is anything else.

Pros

Great, simple design, fashionable, reliable.

Cons

Circular head lamps

Looks

The 2015 Jeep Wrangler looks every bit the off-roader it is supposed to be. Square and chunky, its structural reinforcements are as clear to see as the colour. However, all is not rosy; when will Jeep start building the Wrangler with square headlamps again? The round ones just look wrong; they make it look surprised.

Wrangler side

Feels

The interior is surprisingly stylish, with its overwhelming, upright dash being complemented by a selection of strategic, circular vents and knobs. There is nothing chintzy about it at all, which was always the danger when the car began to appeal to “young and trendy” classes. No, this car remains true to its off-road fan-base, and that shows inside as much as outside.

Engineering

This is the ultimate off-roader, yet the toys have been kept to a minimum. It comes with a part-time transfer case, so you only need to select 4WD when you actually need it, which will help with fuel economy. Otherwise you get a compass and a trip metre, and not much else. It’s perfect for the purists.

Wrangler top

What’s on offer?

The Wrangler comes with a 3.6 litre V6 in its normal guise, and the same engine is on offer in the Wrangler Unlimited. The latter, which is a larger version, comes with additional off-road systems designed on improving comfort. You can join the Wrangler club for AED 120,000, and the price ceiling is around AED 162,000.

Wrangler front

Summing it…

Go forth and spread the word that if you are in any way serious about your off-roading, then you need a Wrangler. It is a living legend in its own right and is as quirky and fun to drive on the road as it is over the desert. The only negative are those circular head lamps, once they’re square, then this car will be perfect!

You are totally incorrect on the headlights. Jeep tried to do square headlights for a while and they looked horrible. The round light with 7 bar grill is iconic and can never be changed.

Larry, my thoughts with you – round and retro works well. Though, obviously, Zaran has a different opinion. Nothing wrong in having an opinion I suppose? That’s what we are about – speaking the mind 🙂
