Review Summary:

Back in 2004 when the first generation model surfaced, it created quite a stir in the motoring industry. While flaunting an abundance of chrome and making its debut in a few video games, the 300C was a hit with the youth, but not so much with the older generations.

Enter SRT8 territory and the performance offered by the 6.4 litre HEMI V8 is absolutely mind blowing for a 5-seater sedan.

Light coloured wood trim in the standard 300C makes the cabin look quite tacky.

When Chrysler announced the second generation model was just around the corner, people panicked and didn’t know if it would be possible to improve on an already perfect design. But then came 2011 and jaws fell to the floor. With a completely new  and sleeker body, LED daytime running lights and revised tail lamps, the second generation model was a stunner; proving once again, that in sedan domain there isn’t anything quite like the 300C that will give you that ‘rapper status’. In SRT8 guise, the 300C sits half an inch closer to the ground, loses its chrome for blacked-out trim and wears a set of massive 20-inchers, looking the part of a high-powered performance sedan.

While the standard 2015 Chrysler 300C is ultra luxurious with a two-tone leather interior and wood trim along the centre console, the SRT8 version opts for a different route. Swapping the wood for carbon fiber and the two-tone leather interior for either black or radar red, a scattering of SRT8 badges and the addition of well bolstered racing seats up front, there’s no confusing the two. Proving to the wife that 300C is highly practical, – even in SRT8 garb – is a rear seat that can accommodate up to 3 adults and a boot that can swallow up to 462 litres of cargo.

Setting the 2015 Chrysler 300C apart from the rest, is the largest panoramic sunroof in its class. The optional dual-pane sunroof covers more than 70% of the roof area and includes a power tilt and express open feature.

What’s on offer?

Spitting out 292 horsepower and 353 Nm of torque, is the new and improved 3.6 litre V6 engine which sends power through an 8 speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. Entering HEMI territory, however, opens up doors to the 5.7 litre engine that churns out 370 horsepower, and the beefier 6.4 litre found in the SRT8. Whipping out 470 horsepower and 637 Nm of torque, the SRT8 version receives Brembo brakes, an adaptive Bilstein suspension set-up and four chrome exhaust outlets that allow the rumble of the V8 to resonate loudly and clearly through the air. Bearing a top speed of 280 km/h and a 0 – 100 km/h time of 5.0 seconds, the 2015 Chrylser 300C SRT8 is a true performance sedan.

Summing it…

The 2015 Chrysler 300C is not your average family sedan, which is why considering uncommon contenders such as the Opel Insignia and Subaru Legacy to the D-segment, is more than appropriate. With a price tag starting from AED 150,000, the 2015 Chrysler 300C is significantly more expensive than both its rivals, but with a higher price tag, the American offers better performance, improved features and a more comfortable cabin. It’s an offering that is just as practical, as exciting.
