Review Summary:

The is a subcompact car from the Japanese brand that was incubated barely a year ago. Manufactured in Thailand, the Attrage takes on a new identity in a few markets of the world and goes by the name Mitubishi Mirage G4. Rivals to the Attrage are the dull Nissan Sunny and overpriced Honda City.

Pros

Priced well to make it stand out in front of its rivals.

Cons

It isn't something you'd be caught dead taking a picture of.

Looks

In essence, the Attrage is the brand’s Mirage hatchback that has been made more practical with the help of a boot. Sadly, in the process, the delightful looks of the modest hatchback have been lost completely. The hexagonal grille up front and dominant contour along the sides are a neat touch, but simply not enough to make the Attrage stand out.

Feels

Unchanged from its hatchback sibling, the Attrage is rather simple on the inside with the flashiest component being a splash of piano black finish to the centre console. Though hard plastic comprises a large part of the cabin, it isn’t tasteless, infact it’s quite nice for a car that costs just AED 38,400.

Engineering

An extremely tight turning radius, one of the smallest in its class, makes the Attrage easy to maneuver through narrow city streets and crowded parking lots. Drivers of every experience level will find the new Attrage an absolute breeze to handle.

What’s on offer?

Powered by a 1.2 litre 3 cylinder engine, the 2015 Mitsubishi Attrage transmits 78 horsepower to the road that helps it reach a 100 km/h from standstill, in a reasonable 14 seconds. Boasting a top speed of just 170 km/h, it clearly doesn’t encourage boy racer antics, but sipping just 4.8 litres of fuel for every 100 kilometers, it is mighty economical!

Summing it…

The 2015 Mitsubishi Attrage may not be the best looking sedan out there, but when you see the price difference between the competition, you forgive it for its shortcomings. Not only is the Attrage slightly less than the Nissan Sunny, but is guaranteed to save you a princely sum if you opt for it over the Honda City.

In the road test about six weeks before this review http://automiddleeast.com/2014/12/11/road-tests/mitsubishi-road-test/2015-mitsubishi-attrage-road-test , the car gets two and a half stars, “OK”, but here it gets three and a half, “Very Good”. Which is it? Do you think that it’s just not suited to the UAE’s roads?

      Hi Mick,

Great having you on the site. The Attrage is a bit of an oddball for this part of the world. While the New Car Review is a brief sum up of the model, the Road Test digs into the nitty-gritty details to see where a particular model shines and where it falls short. If you’ve read the Road Test, you should be able to gather whether it’s fit for this part of the world or not.

      Regards,

      Zaran
