Review Summary:

The 2015 is a German beauty with a justified price tag.

Pros

Wears a justified price tag.

Cons

It's in dire need of an update.

Looks

With a large hood stretching far beyond the wheel arches, black A-pillars, gill-like intakes with integrated LED’s on the side, and slim taillights, a rear diffuser and a folding hard top to accompany, it’s no surprise that the second generation Z4 bagged awards such as the Design of the Year Award in 2002 and the Red Dot Design Award in 2009.

Feels

The interior of the 2015 BMW Z4 features a two-tone dashboard, a silver U shaped beam that houses the A/C and lighting controls, piano black trim along the gear shifter, and Alcantara along the door panels. But it is the leather wrapped sports seats that we love because they suck you in and keep you low to the ground, just like a true sports car should.

Engineering

Remember when Pierce Brosnan controlled the car from his phone during Die Another Day back in 2002? Well, the Z4 isn’t there yet, but packs a neat feature that allows the driver to lock and unlock their car, as well locate it within a 1.5km radius using the My BMW Remote App right from their phone.

What’s on offer?

The smallest engine in the line-up is the 156 horsepower, 240 Nm of torque, 2.0 litre 4 cylider that boasts a 0 – 100 km/h time of 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 220 km/h. But it is the bigger, mightier, 3.0 litre V6 fitted in the sDrive 35is that produces 340 horsepower, 450 Nm of torque and propels the German beauty from a standstill to 100km/h in just 4.8 seconds! Now that, is more like it!

Summing it…

A premium two door hard-top that has earned its design awards, doesn’t pack in too many gimmicky features and offers a decent engine under the hood. The price tag of AED 185,000 to AED 270,000 seems a justified one.
