Review Summary:

It’s a stunner alright, but is that all the 2015 RC is about?

Pros

* Styling is its biggest advantage.
* Decent amount of tech present.

Cons

* The RC F is unfortunately more show than go, and not worthy of its price tag.

Looks

Apart from the badge at the back differentiating the RC from the RC F Sport and RC F, significant differences in the styling of the grille, rims, and bumpers set each one apart. While the standard 2015 Lexus RC welcomes a vertical slatted grille and 18 inch alloys, the halo RC F model is heaps more aggressive with a hood scoop, quad tailpipes, and a large rear diffuser to complement.

Feels

Clearly inspired by the Lexus IS, the interior of the 2015 Lexus RC isn’t exactly very innovative. While the RC and RC F Sport offer a combination of leather and wood trims, the RC F not only benefits from more supportive seats, but a wider variety of colour options and carbon fiber trim.

Engineering

The Lexus RC and its steroid fed brethren, the RC F, are marketed as sports cars for the average Joe to be able to drive confidently. Ensuring drivers feel every G, massive cross-section rocker panels and stiffer front and rear bracing, are combined with a wide wheel and tire assembly to offer optimal grip when cornering.

What’s on offer?

306 horsepower and 376 Nm of torque is what the 3.5 litre V6 engine powering the 2015 Lexus RC is able to generate. The 5.0 litre V8 residing under the hood of the RC F, however, kicks out a significantly greater 467 horsepower and 527 Nm of torque. While both engines get mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission and rear wheel drive platform, the RC F packs a top whack of 270 km/h while the RC runs out of juice at 230 km/h.

Summing it…

The 2015 Lexus RC is a vehicle that will equally appeal to both, your cognition and emotion. For AED 180,000, the standard RC is sleek, powered by a strong V6 engine, and is fuel efficient too. At AED 210,000 even the F Sport version of the standard RC makes for a good buy. But at a significantly higher price tag, the RC F unfortunately loses the plot. Ranging from AED 310,000 to AED 380,000, the RC F falls into the sort of territory where AMG’s, M’s, and RS’s dominate, and unfortunately the RC F is far, far off from what they offer.
