2015 Hyundai Grand i10 | New Car Review
* Price point in comparison to its rivals.
* Well equipped for its price.
* Quality of materials used around the cabin could have been improved.
Based on the new generation Hyundai i10 which is yet to make its debut in the Middle East, the 2015 Hyundai Grand i10 sits at 3,765 mm long and 1,520 mm tall, making it exactly 100 mm longer, 20 mm taller, and 10 kg heavier than its sibling it’s based on. Flaunting a prominent hexagonal grille, LEDs around the fog lamp housings, and tail lamps that slice their way into the fenders, it’s still unmistakably an i10, but it’s worth noting the visit to the surgeons has paid off.
Sporting a two-tone colour scheme, the 2015 Hyundai Grand i10 hasn’t let go of what made the regular i10 stand out; unfortunately, it hasn’t let go of the abundant supply of hard plastics, either. Planted onto a horizontal layout, the clutter-free placement of buttons on the dashboard gives the impression of a significantly roomier cabin – a major plus point.
Fitted with steering wheel controls, Bluetooth telephony, a smart key, and push button ignition, the 2015 Hyundai Grand i10 isn’t exactly under equipped. In fact, with rear parking sensors, an auto defogging system, and ABS as well, it offers a fair amount of kit for its sub AED 40,000 price tag.
What’s on offer?
Churning out 86 horsepower and 120 Nm of torque from its 1.2 litre 4-cylinder engine, the 2015 Hyundai Grand i10 takes a painstaking 15 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Mated to a 4 speed automatic transmission or a 5 speed manual, the Korean hatchback channels power to the front wheels and runs breathless at a calm 157 km/h.
Wearing a price tag that ranges from AED 38,900 – 41,900, the Grand i10 has a clear monetary advantage when compared to the likes of the Suzuki Swift and Mitsubishi Attrage. Quite frankly, that’s all that’s needed in its segment to be successful.
