Review Summary:

The GX is a mid-size SUV based on the Toyota Prado and manufactured by its luxury arm, Lexus. In the lineup, the fits snugly between the smaller RX and the larger LX models.

Pros

* Powerful enough engine to make the GX both, ideal for the city and .

Cons

* Add options and price increases exponentially.

Looks

It sports the largest ever spindle grille in the brand’s line-up, headlights that can be mistaken for those found on the LX, and aggressive fog lamp housings that flank either side of the bumper. Yes, the GX finally looks more like its elder sibling, the Lexus LX and less like the Toyota Prado that it is based on, and that makes us very, very happy.

Feels

Keeping up with Lexus standards, the 2015 GX is home to ample amounts of soft leather, wood trim and a revised centre console that houses a massive 8″ touchscreen multimedia system. In addition to 3D maps, it is capable of displaying three sections at once. The screen can be configured as a single display (navigation/map), dual display (navigation/map + audio) or three displays on the same screen (navigation/map + audio + Temperature Control or any other function).

Engineering

The 2015 Lexus GX 460 is both a comfortable city cruiser and a confident off-roader. On road, the driver can tailor ride and handling balance by selecting from Normal, Sport or Comfort modes for the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS). On the other hand, the sophisticated full-time 4WD system includes low range gearing for secure off-road travel, and is supported by a range of chassis control technologies such as Crawl Control, Downhill Assist Control (DAC), Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). Additionally, a steering angle indicator in the gauge panel shows the driver which direction the front wheels are pointing – a feature that can be extremely useful when tackling tricky terrain.

What’s on offer?

Under the hood, the 2015 Lexus GX 460 packs in a 4.6 litre V8 unit that produces 301 horsepower and 446 Nm of torque. With ample amounts of torque available, towing is one of the GX 460’s strengths and it is made easier since Trailer Sway Control is now available as standard. As far as variants are concerned, the GX is available in three packages; Premier, Prestige and Platinum, at prices of AED 210,000, AED 230,000 and AED 260,000 respectively.

Summing it…

The 2015 Lexus GX is a mighty practical offering from the Japanese brand. Having undergone various improvements both aesthetically and otherwise during the past few years, the GX is now finally worthy of two things: wearing the stylized ‘L’ on its snout, and of its asking price.
