Review Summary:

1948 – that’s the year the very first F-Series pick-up truck rolled off the showroom floor. But unlike other 67 year olds I know, the 2015 F-150 is muscular, aggressive, and dare I say slightly seductive too.

Pros

* The F-150 has taken a massive leap in the right direction and has been significantly improved.

Cons

* Slightly pricier than its rivals.

Looks

Pick-up trucks have an odd appeal; those who like them, have an inexplicable adoration for them, while those who don’t, simply would not be caught dead behind the wheel of one. The thing about the 2015 Ford F-150, however, is that even people who fall into the latter of the two categories, are likely to make an exception for it. After all, with a protruding chrome grille, LEDs surrounding its headlamps, and a sinister aura, who wouldn’t want to pilot it?

Feels

Stitched leather, chrome surrounds, and wood trim aren’t exactly interior embellishments you’d expect to find in an F-150. However, that’s not to say the American has lost its rugged work truck appeal. With rear doors that open at an angle of 170 degrees, 12V and 110V power outlets, and fold-flat rear seats with under-seat storage, the 2015 Ford F-150 proves it still has what it takes to be a practical pick-up truck.

Engineering

Parking a pick-up truck is a task dreaded by many. However, with a 360 degree view thanks to four cameras located around the truck and a split screen that stitches all the images together, parking the 2015 Ford F-150 shouldn’t be any more complex than your regular SUV.

What’s on offer?

While the Raptor and Ecoboosted versions of the all-new F-150 haven’t made their way to the region yet, the standard 5.0 litre V8 engine is good enough to keep you busy until they’re here. Pushing out 385 horsepower and 525 Nm of torque, the 2015 Ford F-150 gets mated to a six speed automatic transmission and is able to touch a top speed of 160 km/h.

Summing it…

Competing against the Dodge Ram and the Chevrolet Silverado, the 2015 Ford F-150 doesn’t have a lot to be worried about. While the Ram is in need of a makeover, the updated Silverado comes off as being just a tad brash. The F-150 on the other hand, is flamboyant without being tacky; it’s the clear winner.
