Review Summary:

The 2015 Taurus is not a bad car at all. It looks quite good, the interior is quite good, the range of options are pretty good, and it blends practicality and comfort reasonably well, too.

Pros

Spacious and rather comfortable too.

Cons

Interior could be redesigned to look a little less bulky.

Looks

The Taurus certainly has a very American vibe about its looks. For a full-sized saloon car it is surprisingly big, and stylish too. The headlamps give it a powerful expression, and the large grille is reminiscent to that of an Aston Martin. From the side it does look a little Audi-ish, but with optional 20’ wheels it looks more like a Touring Car. The rear clusters could do with being a suggestion larger, but on the whole the 2015 Ford Taurus is a handsome car. The only question mark is the chrome strip that runs across the tailgate joining the clusters. It looks unnecessary and, frankly, wrong.

Feels

Whenever I sit in a car for the first time I think of one adjective that summarises its interior. For example, a Ford Focus is “futuristic” and a Nissan Tiida is “horrid”. With the Taurus I thought “chunky”. That’s not a derogatory put-down, merely an observation. Everything inside is plump, from the door linings to the centre console. The feeling of being surrounded by so much is exasperated by the height of the doors. The interior is well finished, if a little unremarkable.

Engineering

The 2015 Ford Taurus is fitted with 4-wheel power brake discs, which is far better than the conventional rear drums. As an optional extra you can also ask for adaptive cruise control and the collision warning system, a feature that is certainly ideal for the UAE roads. The multimedia system sits very nicely in the fascia and the dials are certainly one of its best features.

What’s on offer?

288 horsepower and 345 Nm of torque sounds like a decent sum of power. Yet, there’s a beefier Ecoboost engine on offer that puts out 365 horsepower and 474 Nm of torque. Mated to a six speed automatic transmission, the primary engine channels power to a front wheel drive layout, while the former does so to an all wheel drive layout. Touching 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, the naturally aspirated Taurus is no slouch, but if 5.8 seconds sounds more exciting to you, then it’s the Taurus SHO you’d have to consider.

Summing it…

The 2015 Ford Taurus is not a bad car at all. It looks quite good, the interior is quite good, the range of options are pretty good, and it blends practicality and comfort reasonably well, too. While there is nothing strictly wrong with it, it does feel like quite an average car. It won’t appear in a book of automotive classics, but it will certainly be a decent car that you will be able to rely upon.
