2015 Lincoln Navigator | new car review
* A commanding presence is something that comes as standard with this gargantuan SUV.
* While the redesigned interior is a job well done, the same cannot be said for the exterior.
Ideal for a drug baron, rapper or football player, the 2015 Lincoln Navigator has a slightly different appeal to your normal family hauling SUV’s. Sharing underpinnings with its Ford Expedition cousin, the Navigator receives the ‘chrome treatment’ which sees its grille, wheels, side mirrors, window lining, exhaust tip and a lot more covered in the reflective substance. With design and presence that command respect, the 2015 Lincoln Navigator is one of those vehicles that pulls up to the security gate with completely tinted windows and goes through; no questions asked.
Complementing the exterior upgrades, the interior has been spruced up, too. Welcoming ample amounts of wood trim and an even greater amount of leather, the Navigator feels every bit as premium as its badge connotes. The sheer size of the dashboard, steering, centre armrest and centre console, is enough to make even the brawniest of gym-going blokes feel a little insecure.
Equipped with power folding third and second row seats that fold completely flat to reveal a boot that is big enough to be considered a studio apartment in some parts of the world, the gargantuan American SUV offers more space than most would know what to do with.
What’s on offer?
Bidding farewell to the mighty V8 engine that powered its predecessors, the 2015 Lincoln Navigator proves the benefits of a smaller turbocharged engine. Generating 380 horsepower and a staggering 624 Nm of torque, the Navigator isn’t only more powerful than previous models, but more fuel efficient too. Mated to a six speed automatic transmission, the 2015 Lincoln Navigator accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds and bears a top speed of 170 km/h.
The 2015 Lincoln Navigator is somewhat of an underdog; people are aware of its existence, but it’s never the fist SUV that comes to mind. And that is a real shame, because it’s a brilliant vehicle in every aspect and it even comes in for a price that is inferior to that of the Cadillac Escalade. Definitely one we need to see on the roads more often…
