Review Summary:

The MKX is a mid-size crossover that debuted in 2007 and shares its platform with the Mazda CX-9. Featuring a unibody construction, the MKX went under the knife for a facelift in 2011, but still remains true to its Ford Edge roots.

Pros

* Powerful engine that packs in enough punch for a car of its dimensions.

Cons

* It is just much too similar to the Ford Edge to demand such a high price premium.

Looks

If you’re sitting there scratching your head and asking yourself why this car looks so much like the Ford Edge, then the answer is simple. The designers have taken the Edge, gifted it a massive grille up front, applied some chrome to its wheels and redesigned its tail lamps, before re-badging it and bringing it out as their very own, the 2015 Lincoln MKX.

Feels

Inside, there’s not much to complain about, unless of course materials like wood, leather and brushed aluminium aren’t to your liking. With contrasting wood trim running along the dashboard and door panels, there’s no denying the 2015 Lincoln MKX is a pleasantly comfortable little crossover to get around town in.

Engineering

Backing out of a parking spot can prove tricky and even more so when the vehicle is on the larger side and visibility isn’t the greatest. Lincoln’s cross-traffic alert feature fitted in the MKX, comes to the rescue and alerts driver’s with a visual and audible warning should they be backing out of a parking bay and another vehicle is approaching.

What’s on offer?

305 horsepower @ 6,500 RPM and an equally impressive 380 Nm of torque @ 4,000 RPM is what the 3.7 litre V6 engine transmits to the road through an all-wheel drive layout. Mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, the 2015 Lincoln MKX is believed to touch the 100 km/h mark in 7.8 seconds. Rather impressive, we’d say.

Summing it…

The 2015 Lincoln MKX is a re-badged Ford Edge and if you’re the budget conscious types, then you’ve probably already discounted the Lincoln and walked into the Ford showroom to book the Edge. But  what if  you’re willing to pay a premium to strut a superior badge on the front of your vehicle? Well, then you’d be delighted to know that by spending less than you would on the MKX, you could be behind the wheel of the Lexus RX crossover.
