Review Summary:

The is a full-size crossover built by Ford’s luxury division, Lincoln. Based on the underpinnings of the Ford Flex / Explorer, the MKT slots in between the smaller Lincoln MKX and larger Lincoln Navigator.

* Well laid out interior that is just as nice to touch as it is to see.

* Ghastly exterior styling and ridiculous price tag.

If you’ve seen the MKT’s younger sibling, the MKX, you’d know it doesn’t hail from a very pretty family. Flaunting many of the same design cues, the designers have pushed the boundaries of laziness and merely stretched the MKX to arrive at the MKT. In two very simple words, it’s catastrophic…

After putting the exterior together, it’s pretty evident that the same bunch of people didn’t handle the interior. It’s everything the exterior lacks; a great design, smooth lines and the look of a premium vehicle. With a neat infotainment screen sandwiched between a centre mounted speaker and central A/C vents, complimented by soft leather and walnut wood trim, the cabin is a pleasant place to be with six of your best friends.

Seatbelts are mandatory and more so, useful. Claimed to reduce the risk of injury while providing support to the head and neck, while also distributing crash force energy across more of the torso than a traditional safety belt, Lincoln’s inflatable seatbelt’s are interesting and definitely a neat addition.

What’s on offer?

Under the hood you can expect to find a 3.7 litre V6 engine that kicks out 303 horsepower at 6,500 RPM and 377 Nm of torque at 4,000 RPM, while being mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission. Matched to a Front Wheel Drive layout, the 2015 Lincoln MKT dashes to 100 km/h in a little over 8 seconds, making it almost an entire second quicker than the car it’s based on. For those who aren’t averse to the turbocharging revolution taking place, there’s a 3.5 litre turbocharged V6 on offer as well.

Summing it…

We don’t see too many MKT’s on the road, in fact, let’s not exaggerate, we barely see any. With an exterior as ghastly as the one you see in these pictures and a significant price premium over the Ford Explorer, it’s no wonder the MKT is a surprise when you see it anywhere else apart from the showroom floor.
