Review Summary:

The 2015 MKC is a compact crossover that is manufactured by Ford’s luxury arm and is based on the Ford Escape SUV. Facing competition from the likes of the German Audi Q3 and the Japanese Infiniti QX50, the American offering is finally able to stand alongside its rivals without flinching a muscle.

Pros

* A genuinely good offering for a decent price.

Cons

* The capacitive touch switches may have improved the aesthetic appeal, but they've eliminated simplicity from the equation.

Looks

Borrowing design elements from its MKZ sibling, the 2015 Lincoln MKC features sleek headlamps, a taut chrome grille, and numerous protruding contours along its bodywork. Quite easily the most aesthetically pleasing offering in the brand’s lineup, the MKC undoubtedly trumps its competition as far as looks are concerned.

Feels

With a generous splash of leather, wood, and silver trim around the cabin, the Lincoln MKC reinstates its standing as a premium SUV. Adopting the same layout seen in the MKZ, the MKC welcomes a healthy dose of capacitive touch switches and a rather neat floating centre console. Offering seating for five and 712 litres of cargo room to boot, the MKC is a practical little one.

Engineering

Utilizing microphones fitted around the interior, the MKC is able to monitor the sound profile of the cabin and invert the waves using a processor, to generate opposing acoustic waves through the speakers. In layman terms, the Active Noise Cancellation system works by cutting out unwanted sounds heard in the cabin, to a create a quieter one.

What’s on offer?

Under the hood of the MKC resides either a 2.0 litre unit, or a slightly brawnier 2.4 litre engine. Although both engines receive the turbocharger treatment and get mated to a six speed automatic transmission, the former kicks out 240 horsepower and 366 Nm of torque, while the latter is good for 285 horsepower and an impressive 414 Nm of torque.

Summing it…

With a price tag ranging from AED 160,000 to AED 210,000, the 2015 Lincoln MKC slots in between the economical Infiniti QX50 and the pricier Audi Q5. While materials and badge perceptions are evidently of a higher standard in the Q5, the dated, comical, and prosaic Infinti QX50 is no match for the Lincoln MKC.
