Review Summary:

The 2015 is the German brand's answer to the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe and the Mercedes CLS. Though there are a few shortfalls, they can all be pardoned as the Audi wears a significantly lower price tag.

Pros

* Attractive exterior design earns the A7 points.
* Boot space is staggering for a car of its nature.

Cons

* The standard A7 offers an interior that doesn't quite match the sporting exterior of the vehicle.

Looks

The 2015 Audi A7 is Audi’s challenge to the established Mercedes CLS and the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe, and they have done well in taking the fight to Germany’s “big two”. The A7 Sportback is a good looking car, simple and well-finished. It is an attractive car without making a song and dance about it. The front is, as you would expect, like every other Audi. The back of the car is the most generous, and will offer those behind you at the traffic lights the gift of a pleasant view that will certainly brighten their day.

Feels

The interior is graceful, yet doesn’t really match the car’s external appearance. If you’re going to buy a fastback such as the A7, then you are likely to have more sporting pretensions. Inside the A7 there is a feel that are you are driving a more conservative saloon. It is laid out in a very logical fashion, and everything is easily within reach. When picking your interior option then the pretend plastic wood is best avoided. Audi’s are silver, grey, and clinical; there is no time for pipe tobacco and walnut.

Engineering

Like most Audi’s, the A7 is based on Volkswagen’s MLB platform. This means that the technology relating to the engine and drive-train is tried and tested and present in other current models. The 2015 Audi A7 is therefore not going to be a box full of mysteries, which is obviously a major plus. It is not short on goodies and options either. There are a multitude of innovative ideas, including the touch-sensitive “MMI Touch”, which allows you to make calls and set the Sat-Nav without, according to Audi, taking your eyes off the road.

What’s on offer?

There are four petrol engines available in the UAE, with the 2.8 FSI and the 3.0 TFSI being the smallest of the bunch. The 2.8 kicks out a modest 204 horsepower, while the 3.0 Quattro will unleash a “that’s more like it” 310 horsepower. Economically speaking, the 2.8 FSI will give you 100 kilometres in exchange for 7.5 litres of fuel, which isn’t bad for a car of this nature. The list of options available on the A7 is endless, but the base model 2.8 FSI will set you back AED 238,500, with the 3.0 TFSI Quattro beginning at AED 265,700.

Verdict

The 2015 Audi A7 is a silent killer. While the Mercedes CLS and BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe will strut around flexing their muscles, the A7 will glide around silently, using its cunning to win peoples votes. Its simple and elegant appearance means that you will be able to drive around without having to worry about too many people trying to peer in to establish whether you’re a celebrity or not. At AED 238,500 the A7 is significantly more affordable than both its rivals, and in that regard, the A7 is the best pick of the three.
