Review Summary:

“Vorsprung Durch Technik” is a written testament that Germans could be extremely stubborn, due to their persistence in marketing a German motto to the rest of the world, which incidentally is non-German speaking. But that stereotype is easily forgotten when weighed against their immaculate attention to detail and precision as seen in the 2015 A6, ’s mid-sized sedan that is a rolling example of their Motto “Advancement through Technology”.

Pros

* Improved headlight design is a pleasant addition.
* Folding rear seats add that extra element of practicality when carrying larger objects in the boot.

Cons

* Very similar styling to the larger A8.

Looks

The body of the A6 has aerodynamic cues that make you question whether it was designed by an artist or simply crafted in a wind tunnel. The pebble shaped mirrors funnel air across the body to the boot’s upwards slanting edge that fends off the air. The body is large but sleek with 2 massive chrome tail pipes that can produce high decibels of muffler acoustics.

Feels

Wide, comfortable, and towering over your shoulders, the seats tuck you in nicely and have adjustable bolsters that gently dig into your back and clamp you in from the sides depending on how snug you want to be in the standard Valcona & Milano Italian leather. The rear seats are soft enough for you to sink in, but firm enough to hold you in place on rough bends. The enormous transmission tunnel in the middle however makes it difficult to seat 3 adults.

Engineering

With the conveniently placed scroll under the gear lever, the driver can choose which song to play from the playlist on their phone, to stiffening suspension settings. One trending feature that seems to have gained more popularity with German auto makers is the automatic engine power on/off mode which switches the engine off when the car comes to a complete stop to reduce emissions, and immediately back on once your foot touches the throttle pedal.

What’s on offer?

5 engine variants to choose from, and the gap between the entry level A6 and the fully loaded RS6 Avant is a whopping AED 360,000. The entry 2.0T starts at AED 164,300 and puts out 180horsepower and 320 NM of torque. The S-line both share the same turbo charged 4.0L V8. The monstrous 560 HP and 700NM of torque RS6 only comes as an Avant and packs in bucket rear and front seats, an intoxicating exhaust note and has a steep AED 450,000 price tag. The more modest S6 puts out an impressive 420 HP and 550 NM of torque  for AED 301,000. A bargain in comparison, eh?

Verdict

The high prices are justifiable due to the standards of build quality and fuel saving technologies such as Eco-mode. A contradictory aspect to Audi’s going greener phase is the mandatory Quattro for the V6s and V8 – the AWD system is thirstier than an ordinary FWD and its functionality is somewhat not put to full use on the UAE’s roads. A stellar package either way, the A6 definitely should be on your list if looking for a mid-luxury method of transport.
