Review Summary:

The XJ is ’s flagship, luxury cruiser. Style, prestige, and refinement are the big three adjectives used to describe it.

Pros

For the money, the XJ seems like an absolute steal!

Cons

Just two engines to choose from.

Looks

The current generation of the Jaguar XJ was launched in 2009, and boy, did it turn heads. The smooth lines of the body flow uninterrupted from front to back, book-ended by some exotically designed front and rear lamps. Arguably, the mesh grille at the front does appear to have been snipped off, giving the  car an unflattering flat-fronted look. Otherwise, it’s a good job from the Jag boys.

Feel

Like all luxury British cars, Jaguars are supposed to be full of beige leather and wooden-panels, with the smell of pipe tobacco weaved into the upholstery. Sadly, this image has been hijacked by the Japanese manufactures and their mid-range saloons. So the big British cat has had to inject an ounce of futurism to its cars, and man alive does the 2015 Jaguar XJ feel futuristic. Despite the absence of a wingback chair, a grammar phone, and a brandy glass, you still know you’re in a Jaguar.

Engineering

Inside the XJ are myriad electronic and digital features that could blow the British gentry’s minds to bits. Infotainment, digitised dials, touch-sensitive this and touch sensitive that; it’s all there. An analogue clock that sits proudly atop the centre stack is the only remaining relic from a time long passed. For an improved driving experience, the XJ comes with adaptive dynamics and cruise control, as well as an active differential system.

What’s on offer?

There are several variations of the 2015 Jaguar XJ on offer, with an entry level 2.0 litre T model starting at around AED 269,000. The next step up would see you looking at the 3.0 litre supercharged Luxury variant that costs AED 299,000. Opt for the region’s favourite top-of-the-line flavour, and you’d be looking at AED 379,000 for the Executive Edition.

Summing it

The XJ is a refined car. Buying one suggests that you know your cars, and don’t just panda to the trend of owning a shiny German one. For all its expense, it is still a subtle yet elegant solution that will let other motorists know that you have both taste and modesty. It will masquerade your presumed infinite wealth quite well. For the same money, there is nothing, nothing d’ya hear, quite so classy.
