2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport unveiled in Dubai
Since its worldwide debut at the Paris Motor Show in October, the Land Rover Discovery Sport has been at the forefront of many motoring enthusiast’s conversations. Making its heritage and unmatched off-road potential known, the Land Rover Discovery Sport has been the star of several videos that surfaced on the web and has now made its Middle Eastern debut in Dubai.
Welcoming the first member of the Land Rover’s new Discovery family at a gala event, the unveiling saw BMX riders, Parkour groups and traditional Arabic drummers add vitality and glamour to the Hamdan Sports Complex on Tuesday evening. Showcased alongside the Discovery Vision Concept, the production version housed a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and is believed to cost AED 159,000 once it goes on sale early next year.
Taut headlamps and unmistakable LEDs give the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport a rather menacing look, one that is accompanied by a slender grille, artificial air vents along the fenders and a patch of silver trim running horizontally across the hood. Towards the rear end, the Land Rover Discovery Sport bears even greater resemblance to the Range Rover Evoque(not a bad thing at all), with its descending character lines and circular tail lamps.
Introducing a 5 + 2 seating layout for the first time in the compact premium SUV class, the Discovery Sport is unique, but Briton’s innovative streak doesn’t end there. Coupled with supple long-travel suspension, the innovative rear axle ensures the Discovery Sport is comfortable and refined on-road, yet more than capable of taking a thrashing off the beaten path.
From a safety perspective, the Discovery Sport is home to a pedestrian airbag, an autonomous emergency braking system, a Head-Up Display unit, and a bodyshell featuring both, high-strength steel and lightweight aluminium.
