Review Summary:

The is a member of the B-segment of the automotive market and started its life way back in 1983. Adopting multiple identities in its early days, the Swift was referred to as the Suzuki Cultus in Japan, while other markets knew it as the Suzuki Jazz and Suzuki Forsa.

Pros

The Sport variant looks mighty fine

Cons

The styling of the Swift Dzire can be tweaked to make it a little more pleasant on the eyes

Looks

Three versions of the 2015 Suzuki Swift are currently being offered by the Japanese manufacturer – a four door sedan known as the Swift Dzire, a regular five door , and a sportier version of the standard , presumably referred to as the Swift Sport. While the Dzire is definitely the most unattractive of the bunch, the Sport flaunts tasty hot hatch design cues such as a rear diffuser, smoked headlamps and a rear spoiler.

Feels

Red stitching on the steering wheel and seats, embroidered logo’s on the seatbacks and a slick perforated leather steering wheel are all present in the Swift Sport. Hop into the Swift Dzire or the Swift hatchback and it’s all a little different. Suddenly the hard plastics are more dominant than ever before and the tacky wood trim on the dashboard and door panels heighten the feel of deceptive luxury.

Engineering

Since the Swift Sport is the performance flagship of the Swift series, Suzuki pursued higher levels of chassis performance, thereby improving controllability and stability. Greater toe and camber rigidity in the torsion beam, greater lateral rigidity in the torsion-beam bushings, and larger rear wheel bearings, pursue stability at the rear in the higher speed range.

On offer

The smallest engine up on offer is a 1.2 litre unit that makes its way into the Swift Dzire, producing just 84 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque. The 1.4 litre 4 cylinder engine found in the Swift hatchback is the next level up, and produces 94 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque while being mated to a 4 speed automatic transmission. At the peak of its engine line-up is the 1.6 litre unit which is underneath the hood of the Sport variant and completes a 0 – 100 km/h run in 8.7 seconds and comes mated to a CVT transmission.

Verdict

The Kia Rio and Ford Fiesta are worthy competitors to the Suzuki Swift. While the Kia Rio can be parked up your driveway in just AED 45,900, the Fiesta is significantly more. Slotting in neatly between the two, the Suzuki Swift starts out at just AED 44,900 and tops out at AED 72,000 for the Sport variant.

Hi, thanks for the review. I have a question. Can I buy the Suzuki Swift Sport 1.6 with a manual transmission? Is it possible to convince the dealer to import one if not readily available? I’m in the process of moving to Dubai and have to decide on a car. 🙂

I have the SSS version Suzuki Swift Sport 2015.
Excellent handling on curbs while speeding, excellent grip on the road, the bucket seats are comfortable, xenon headlights like stadium projectors, the car is very smooth on ragged roads and the shift paddles are very responsive and reliable. Bought it in Lebanon and worth every penny.
