Review Summary:

Tired and dated, that's the 2015 described in two words.

Pros

* Seating up to seven individuals is something the Mohave tackles effortlessly.

Cons

* Five speed automatic transmission is proof of just how dated the Mohave really is.

Looks

Launched in 2008, the Kia Mohave looks like it has been frozen in time. So much so, that if the 2008 model and 2015 model were parked beside each other, it’s unlikely that even people at Kia would be able to tell them apart. The 2015 model sports a new grille, but that doesn’t make up for the long over due update with the squarish headlamps, LED tail lamps, and boxy appearance.

Feels

Dated. That’s possibly the best way to describe the interior. It may have been stylish back in 2008, but in today’s day and age when dashboards are adorned with capacitive touch switches, piano black trim and large multimedia screens, the Mohave feels like it belongs to the stone ages. The silver lining to this otherwise grey cloud, is the fact that seating 7 passengers is an easy feat for the Korean SUV.

Engineering

The AWD lock mode locks the centre differential and distributes torque equally between the front and rear wheels to allow for optimum grip. The Mohave is also available with Downhill Brake Control that helps maintain control and a steady speed on steep descents; while Hill-start Assist Control prevents the car from rolling backwards when pulling away from a standstill on an incline.

What’s on offer?

The 2015 Kia Mohave is powered by a 3.8 litre V6 engine which churns out 272 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 362 Nm of torque at 4,400 RPM. Mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission, the Mohave is capable of handling some rough stuff, but don’t venture too deep off the beaten path.

Summing it…

The Kia Mohave was discontinued in North America after poor sales and was later pulled out of Canada as well. With the Sorento being the replacement model in those markets, I think it’s time Kia pulled the Mohave out of the Middle East as well. Simply because, the Sorento is head and shoulders better than the dated Mohave!

I’d have to agree with this article. It’s probably time for Kia to pull the plug on this one, or at the very least, update it!
