Review Summary:

The is a full size crossover SUV, that also happens to be the first unibody vehicle built by the American brand. Competitors include, but are not limited to the good looking Mazda CX-9 and improved Ford Explorer.

Pros

* Five star safety rating is an important factor in this segment of the market.

Cons

* Exterior design is a little too bling for most.

Looks

Currently in its second generation, the 2015 GMC Acadia is relatively new to the market and having received a makeover in 2013, it flaunts a redesigned grille and front fascia, a reworked rear liftgate and a much nicer interior too. Emitting a strong American vibe, the GMC Acadia possesses a boxy outershell and an abundance of chrome that simply makes it, not very pleasant to look at.

Feels

Staying true to its roots, almost everything in the cabin is bigger than it needs to be; it’s followed the American philosophy of ‘upsizing’ quite well, you see. Depending on the variant you opt for, the 2015 GMC Acadia either seats six individuals with captain seats in the second row, or seven individuals when fitted with a bench seat.

Engineering

Safety is quite an important factor in cars such as the GMC Acadia, which are tailored to transport children and families from one point to another. Scoring a 5-star global safety rating, the Acadia definitely bags points for its seven airbags (including the industry first front centre airbag) and side / curtain airbags.

On offer

With just one engine available, you won’t be racking your brains wondering which engine would be the ideal one for your lifestyle. The 3.6 litre V6 engine found under the hood emits a decent 288 horsepower and impressive 366 Nm of torque. Mated to a six speed automatic transmission, the 2.3 tonne American SUV touches the 100 km/h mark in 8.8 seconds before continuing to its 170 km/h top speed.

Verdict

The GMC Acadia is a little different, a little too American and more importantly, a little too bling for everyone’s taste. However, if you’re one of the few that can actually get over its looks, then there’s good news for you; it’s available in 9 different hues and with 6 different wheel options, of course all are chrome though.
