Review Summary:

The 2014 Tiggo may not be a common sight on the roads of the U.A.E, but falling into a highly competitive segment of the market, the Chinese faces stiff competition from its Korean rival, the Kia Sportage. Bringing a fair package for a reasonably small price to the table, the Tiggo is a Chinese offering that could potentially put quite a few Japanese and Korean ones to shame.

Pros

* Ample amounts of standard equipment.
* Priced extremely well.

Cons

* With only a Front Wheel Drive layout on offer, the Tiggo is merely a hatchback on stilts.

Looks

Being the only SUV in the brand’s line-up, the 2014 Chery Tiggo can’t be blamed for borrowing styling cues from any of its siblings. However, while the front end is rather sleek and is proud to flaunt angular headlamps with integrated Daytime Running Lights, the rear end is a shoddy copy of the second generation Toyota RAV4; I guess you could say the creative streak didn’t last all through the design process…

Feels

Inside, it’s a neat and functional design that sees a protruding centre stack –embellished in matte silver trim- break the monotony of dark plastics found on the dashboard and door panels. For a premium of just AED 3,000, the Tiggo offers higher levels of comfort with leather wrapped seats, an automatic air conditioning system, and a 6-way adjustable driver’s seat.

Engineering

Available in just two trims, the 2014 Chery Tiggo is one of the few offerings in the market to offer substantial amounts of kit as standard equipment. Luring potential buyers to the brand, the Comfort model, or base model as many would call it in the UAE, offers power windows, cruise control, parking sensors, headlamp leveling, and fog lights, in addition to a CD player with a USB port. For the price of just AED 52,900, that’s a steal no matter which way you look at it.

What’s on offer

Powered by a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder engine which chucks out 137 horsepower at 5,570 RPM and 182 Nm of torque at 4,500 RPM, the 4,390mm long, 1,765mm wide, and 1,705mm tall SUV, delivers power to the front and is capable of reaching a top speed of 170 km/h. Differentiating the Comfort variant from the Luxury variant, however, is the transmission. While the Comfort model directs power through a standard four speed autobox, the Luxury grade receives a CVT transmission which in addition to offering a smoother ride, is believed to reduce fuel consumption as well.

Verdict

If you’re considering getting the 2014 Chery Tiggo, then you’ll be glad to know that by opting for the Tiggo over the Sportage, you’ll be saving nearly AED 15,000, a decent sum of money. But if space is what you’re truly after, then a visit to the Toyota showroom could prove worthwhile, for the Avanza is a seven seater people carrier that costs just AED 55,000. Keep in mind, though, the Jap doesn’t have half the amount of features found on the Tiggo.

First at all, you have to know that you are buying a low-cost vehicule, so you know that some interior and exterior material quality wouldn’t be the best, but after all it is really resistive.. I’ve had 3 minor crashes on the city with this car and nothing happens to me, just have to paint again affected parts.
Then you have a good sound quality and CD and FM features. It would be great if bluetooth, aux or full USB inputs were available, but after all nothing to get rid of this car as a possibility.
The best part of this car is its performance on city and on road and off-road. I have made 3 largest trips (20-hours countinous driving) with my whole family (5 people) and full of baggage and I was able to pass many other SUVs (nissan qashqai, kia sportage, suzuki grand nomade, etc) and 4×4 pick-ups with no problem.
Definetly, a good value for money.
Now it has 2 years and the unique failure it has was the LED of front lamps, but it was changed free by warranty.
