A Bentley for the peasants – the Flying Spur V8
The Bentley Flying Spur is a four door sedan that oozes with grandeur, in fact, it’s the fastest ever four door Bentley, and while it was only available with a massive W12 powerhouse under its hood, a new 4.0 litre V8 engine enters the line-up.
Silencing the environmental activists and the fuel conscious from the Bentley clientele, the new 4.0 litre V8 delivers a mighty impressive 840 kilometres to a full tank of gasoline, but packing in 500 horsepower and 660 Nm of torque, it isn’t lacking any punch either.
Touching the 100 km/h marker in 5.2 seconds and flaunting a top speed of 295 km/h, the Flying Spur V8 is a phenomenal unit, being just 0.6 seconds slower to a 100 km/h and topping out at only 25 km/h short of the W12 engine.
Differentiating the V8 from the W12 are subtle differences – the exhaust finishers are styled in the trademark figure of eight to signify the alternative powertrain, and the famous Bentley winged badge receives the usual red centre to denote the V8 engine.
The bigger difference is more evident in the pricing; while the W12 commands a starting price of AED 890,000, the Flying Spur V8 is a lot more affordable, taking just a smidgen over AED 800,000 out of your bank account. It’s affordable according to Bentley standards, right?
