Review Summary:

The 2014 X4 is the newest addition in the family to strut the Bavarian automaker's insignia above its kidney grille snout. Competing against the Mercedes-Benz GLK and Range Rover Evoque, the X4 is the brand’s answer to the segment.

Interior is a lot roomier than you would initially anticipate.

There is only one word to describe the pricing strategy followed; ridiculous.

Not the most creative of folks, the designers have clearer taken the X3 as their base, and massaged its curves and stretched its contours to arrive at the X4. Don’t be fooled though, it’s still a decent looking SUV that could quite easily be confused with its elder brother, the BMW X6, due to the similarity in their physiques.

Surprisingly roomier than the exterior would suggest, the 2014 BMW X4 is one that does not struggle to accommodate the vertically blessed ones. With the rear seats lowered by 28mm and the front seats brought closer to the ground by 20mm in comparison to the X3, the latest coupe styled SUV is not only roomier, but more comfortable in comparison to its younger sibling as well.

We’ve all heard of remote engine starters that allow for the cabin to cool before you reach your vehicle on warmer days, but what about on colder ones? Equipped with an auxiliary heater, the 2014 BMW X4 ensures you don’t have to try and defrost while seated in a cold leather seat after walking in single digit weather to your car. Granted, it may only be used for one month during the year in the UAE, but hey, at least you know you’re taken care of when the cooler months arrive.

Sending power to all four wheels, the 2.0 litre Twin turbo 4 cylinder engine found in the X4 xDrive 28i, generates 245 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, which translates to a 0 – 100 km/h time of just 6.4 seconds. On the other hand, the brawnier 3.0 litre Twin turbo V6 fitted in the X4 xDrive 35i, churns out 306 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque to propel the X4 to a 100 km/h in a mighty impressive 5.5 seconds.

If you’re the price conscious sorts, or even someone who has the faintest ideas of value for money, then the 2014 BMW X4 isn’t something that will appeal to you. Mining AED 275,000 for the most basic of X4’s from your bank account, its starting price is AED 84,000 higher than that of the Mercedes-Benz GLK’s, and AED 15,000 more than the top of the line Range Rover Evoque! Clearly, driving the X4 around will be less of a fashion statement and more of a well-off one.
