Review Summary:

Starring in movies and cartoons alike, the Beetle is a car that can go without an introduction. Having undergone a major overhaul, the Bug is back in 2014 model year guise and pays homage to its ancestors with its exterior styling, while housing a thoroughly refreshed interior.

Pros

Iconic exterior styling is sure to make the 2014 Beetle a common sight on the roads.

Cons

With just one engine in the line-up, there's not much choice as far as power is concerned.

Looks

Although timeless characteristics such as, round headlights, flared wings and the iconic Beetle hood are present with the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle, an 84mm wider, 12mm lower and 152mm longer form set the all-new Bug apart. Adored by those who have a burning desire to stand out from the crowd, the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle flaunts all the right curves to grow its sizeable following exponentially.

Feels

Unlike the dull and droopy cabin of its predecessor, the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle shelters a sharp dashboard which flaunts circular A/C vents, piano black trim, the company’s tried and tested infotainment system and a set of gauges that make its sporting pretensions clear. For a vehicle that gained popularity by challenging the norm, the interior isn’t particularly quirky and that, is a wonderful thing.

Engineering

Pushing out 400 watts of aural bliss, the standard Fender sound system fitted in the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle consists of two tweeters installed in each of the mirror quadrants and woofers at the front and rear as well. It’s sure to be a hit with the melody thumping trendy tweens that are likely to be behind the wheel, really.

What’s on offer?

Pumping out 210 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque, the 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine achieves a top speed of 227 km/h and dispatches the 0 – 100km/h sprint in just 7.3 seconds. Mated to 6 speed dual clutch transmission, the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle isn’t just quick but efficient too, as it sips just 7.6 litres of fuel for every 100 kilometers covered.

Summing it…

If you’re a fan of the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle, then there isn’t a whole lot can deter you away from it. With a starting price of AED 99,900 which swells to AED 129,500 for the top of the line variant, it’s every bit justified and a small price to pay for an iconic vehicle that has been around for the better half of seven decades.
